CHENNAI: MK Stalin has been formally elected as DMK’s legislative party leader by its new MLAs, just ahead of forming the government. A meeting was convened at the DMK party headquarters on Tuesday evening, to choose the floor leader of the party who will eventually take charge as the Chief Minister of the State. A total of 133 MLAs took part in the meeting 125 from DMK, 4 from MDMK, 2 from MMK, and one each from KMDK and TVK.

Addressing the post-budget press conference, he also said Tamil Nadu s share of taxes on petroleum products has fallen since the introduction of cess by the Centre.
Amid Opposition criticism of the state s overall estimated debt of Rs 5.70 lakh crore with the government intending to borrow Rs 84,686 crore, the official said it was within the 15th Finance Commission limits, unlike some states which have raised more funds breaching the ceiling.
Jayalalithaa memorial inauguration on Jan 27
The memorial is located at the eastern side of the memorial of former Chief Minister and AIADMK founder MG Ramachandran.

CHENNAI: Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami will inaugurate the memorial for former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Marina on January 27, in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam and other ministers. The memorial is located at the eastern side of the memorial of former Chief Minister and AIADMK founder MG Ramachandran.
Speaker P Dhanapal, Deputy Speaker Pollachi V Jayaraman, MPs, MLAs, chairpersons of statutory boards and senior leaders of the AIADMK will take part in the function. Sources said work on converting Jayalalithaa’s Poes Garden residence is going on.
