Woodburn lays off 52 workers as COVID crunches revenue February 12 2021
This past year of pandemic problems has posed significant monetary hurdles to the city of Woodburn
Municipalities across the nation have encountered pandemic-related financial challenges this past year, and Woodburn is no exception.
The city services hit the hardest have been in the Woodburn Parks and Recreation department where programs have been shut down or downsized, while layoffs and reassignments have occurred.
Layoffs included 52 part-time employees. The city also has endured a hiring freeze of six full-time positions, including two police officers.
On the plus side, the reductions resulted in $1 million in savings to the city s general fund, while the city also garnered $3.6 million in COVID-19 community assistance funding.
