Former Madeira Beach City Manager Shane Crawford said he was encouraged by numerous people and groups in Treasure Island to apply for the top job in that city, but he has âmade the decision to avoid local government.â
Although the Treasure Island commission last month was unanimous in believing they had an heir apparent in Assistant City Manager and Finance Director Amy Davis when current city manager Garry Brumback announced his retirement effective June 1, two members of the commission suggested they open the search for a successor.
Treasure Island Mayor Tyler Payne confirmed to Tampa Bay Newspapers that constituents had lobbied on behalf of Crawford.
TREASURE ISLAND â While a unanimous consensus of city commissioners voiced the strong belief that Assistant City Manager and Finance Director Amy Davis is the best choice for Treasure Islandâs next city manager, at least two board members felt the need to indulge a few constituents who want to open up the process before making a decision.
At an April 20 work session, Commissioner Saleene Partridge and Mayor Tyler Payne told fellow commissioners while they believe Davis is best and most likely choice for the position, they also want to respect views from business people and constituents they did not name who favor seeking other candidates.
TREASURE ISLAND â In a surprise announcement he called bittersweet, City Manager Garry Brumback told city commissioners April 6 he would like to retire by June 1.
Brumback, who started in the position in December 2017, told commissioners itâs been an honor to serve the community and work with a great staff and commissioners. âI want to first thank all of the three mayors, and all of the commissioners, who gave me the honor and privilege of being a part of this amazing organization and this great community. It has been an honor to serve, and I also want to extend my gratitude to the staff that has truly been a spectacular organization with which to work.â
