Its an exciting time as we bring a new tale to a jen generation. Library and optimism beginned with a significant purpose always carried out with good humor in the face of the greatest challenges. Roosevelts tomorrow is now. Coverage of the 2013 president reaching festival starts now. Here is maureen beasley. Good morning. I am the Education Specialist at the roosevelt president ial library and museum and on behalf of the fdr president ial Library Museum welcome you in our audience, those of you at home watching on cspan to the tenth annual roosevelt reading festival. Franklin roosevelts plan for the library to become a premier Research Institution for the study of the roosevelt era, the librarys Research Room is one of the busiest of all the president ial libraries and this years group of authors reflect a wide variety of Research Done here. Let me go over the format for the festivals concurrent sessions. At the top of each hour session begins with a 30 minute author talk followed by a 10 minute question and answer period of. Than the authors go to the new deal store where you can purchase books and have them sign them. At the top of the next hour the process repeats itself aga
Members were contingent and unsecure with their jobs. Now its over 70 . That trend seems to be continuing. The trend of state legislatures defunding Higher Education gradually shifting the cost from taxpayers to students, thats now a 25 year trend. Trends like that dont always and quickly. I think theres a future for state funding in higher Public Education is not great. Both of those things do not mind mote bode well for maintaining Higher Education. If i were to recommend anything i would recommend the federal government pay for public Higher Education and make it freeforall children come to all americanamerican s. 60 billion a year and a couple of battleships left, we have actually made public Higher Education a genuine public good. I think without some fundamental change the quality is going to erode. Scientists all over the country having to choose the basic research that will bring in the most dollars. Rather they choose the research that will do the most good for the people in t
