07 May 2021 : News Desk Galway Film Fleadh The Galway Film Fleadh has revealed that the 33rd edition of the Fleadh & Fair will take place from July 20th 25th in 2021.
The move comes as part of a general reshuffling in this year’s festival calendar caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Fleadh’s Director of Programming, Will Fitzgerald, said moving this year’s edition to July 20
th bought the festival time, amidst the ongoing uncertainty around capacity for summer events, and the question mark over the opening of cinemas, to plan for its intended hybrid event.
The Fleadh plans to deliver Ireland’s first hybrid film event, after being the first Irish film festival to deliver an online edition last year.

I first heard about the Wombles when my agent, Liz Channon, told me that the BBC was making a new children’s show. It was 1972 and I met Ivor Wood, who had been one of the animators on The Magic Roundabout, and was shown the little studio at Film Fair, a small production company based off Marylebone High Street. There was a tabletop set with 12in-high Wombles, the studio was lit and they were shooting one frame, moving a character around, and then shooting another frame. He told me that Bernard Cribbins was going to narrate it and then asked, ‘Would you like to write the tune for this?’ and I thought, ‘I’d love to!’
