The woman at the end of the phone was polite and quite helpful in an almost nonchalant fashion, and yet in my mind she had just relayed perhaps the most frightening message I had ever received.
She had just informed me that I had tested positive for COVID-19.

At first I thought, “Well, I don’t feel ill and I’m scheduled for my shot in less than a week, so let’s just move on,” which I did, but at a much slower and weakened pace.
