She while paying tribute to colleague and Human Rights Defender Joseph Camillo yesterday.
Mr Camillo died on Sunday at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital after a long battle with heart disease.

The Fiji Human Rights Commission 2019 Annual Report was handed over to the President Major-General (Ret’d) Jioji Konrote received at the State House today.
Director of the Fiji Human Rights and Anti-Discrimination Commission, Ashwin Raj and a team from the Commission presented the annual report to Mr Konrote.
Also, in attendance during the presentation was Acting Chief Justice and Chairperson of the Human Rights and Anti-Discrimination Commission, Justice Kamal Kumar.

ITF investigations this week have uncovered that staff at Goundar Shipping tried to confiscate a number of seafarers’ passports and other documents upon beginning work with the company. It is alleged that the company would not allow the seafarers to work until they did so. Withholding travel documents and forcing persons to work under threat are both offences under Fiji’s human trafficking laws.

Sri Lanka will shortly be facing renewed scrutiny at the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva, where elements of the international community have been calling for action over unsubstantiated war crimes allegations. This may lead to sanctions against senior officers of the Sri Lanka armed services and even political leaders.
Sri Lanka’s response has been characterized by the usual lack of preparedness, last minute flurries of activity and panic. There has been very little research, serious study or thinking. This has been the hallmark of Sri Lankan strategic and diplomatic thinking over the years.
