May 19, 2021 09:26:19 AM More than 11000 swab results yet are to be processed by the Fiji Centre for Disease Control and Prevention. Permanent Secretary for Health Dr James Fong while speaking during the press conference said the swabs from high-risk individuals are a priority for the Ministry for Health. He said there are 11,000 reasons the MOH cannot roll back more restrictions. “Tracing is half of the containment equation, and my teams deserve high marks for their efforts in that regard. We have more than 11,000 swab results yet to be processed,” he said. “We are tracing much faster than we have been able to test due to the recent issue at Fiji Centre for Disease Control and Prevention.”

Vanua Levu – north of Fiji – is COVID-19 free as of yesterday.
Health Ministry permanent secretary Dr James Fong announced this yesterday after reports surfaced that certain areas in Labasa were sealed off because of a suspected case of COVID-19.
“We flagged a potential case of COVID-19 yesterday in the Northern Division after an individual residing in Labasa initially registered a weak positive COVID-19 test result for a sample tested at the Labasa Hospital laboratory,” he said.
“Two retests of the same sample generated negative results at the same lab.

The Permanent Secretary for Health Doctor James Fong has highlighted that the COVID-19 test result is based on what science has told them. Responding to a question about the case from Naria in Rakiraki where the man claimed that all his test were negative and if this could also be a false positive result as the one in Labasa, Doctor Fong says that is a technical discussion but from a science perspective the man from Naria is positive but he did not transmit the virus to his family.
