nuclear weapons and that s a tremendous danger for our collective future. p.j., should the americans be worried about the dessert fiction or should we look at this as an opportunity for congress to make the deal better? i certainly don t think congress is going to necessarily make the deal better. i mean, let s step back. there s no prospect that the allies or the other seven parties are going to renegotiate the deal. now, what congress will try to do, listening to senator tom cotton last week, outlining a prospective strategy, this congress will be asked to try to bring into the deal through unilateral legislative fiat, more aggressive sanction, more aggressive inspection, trying to make this a permanent deal and try to bring missiles insidite ran deal. the net effect of that is probably going to be termination of the deal, if the president follows through on his threat. and the irony here is that
the supreme leader has come down very hard on the team that negotiated this. you weren t meant to throw the baby out with the bath water. you should have left maneuver for america to walk this deal back, which is what he said was going to happen. but they are also particularly upset about the irgc being targeted here. it s a powerful entity in iran. all day officials in iran have been saying if the u.s. comes down hard on the irgc, their response will be crush hearing. a senior irgc commander said today, we have buried many like trump in the past and we re used to fighting america. we know how to defeat them. this is tough talk coming out of iran, which had been dampened for a while after the deal. rouhani had been able to walk back a lot of the tough rhetoric from iran but i don t think he s in a position to do that anymore. moderates here have been greatly weakened by this deal being
but john kerry was able to speak directly to the iranian foreign minister. after a while, they were able to diplomatic solve that situation. if something like that was to occur again now, i don t think they could diplomatically solve it, and that s not in anybody s interests. it s not in iran s interest or america s interest. one more deal. yes, the deal may be flawed and other aspects that haven t been addressed but iran wants to adhere to this deal, the nuclear deal because they need it. they need to revive the economy. it was in bad shape. people were grumbling. there were all sorts of domestic problems. they needed this deal. there s no reason for them to step away from this deal anyway. it would only solve problems for iran. that s not something we want. they want to join the international community, try and have relations with europe, even possible relations with the united states, aspects of the regime here, and now that looks
watered down and the hard liners in iran will be calling the shots going forward here. they re basically saying this deal was not negotiated well by moderates. it never should have been done. and now we re going to take charge of this. which sets the stage for a lot more confrontation between iran and america in this region. a lot of their interests are overlapg here, as isis fade as way in places like syria. there s a vacuum left with both iran and america trying to fill and they re not getting on with each other which makes the situation much, much more dangerous. tlchsz of tl there was a small glimmer of hope during the obama administration that this was a base, not a ceiling. four years of animosity of iran wasn t just going to go away in a night or two but something you could possibly build on and build on, the diplomacy. you ll remember, andrea, when the u.s. sailors were taken, terrible situation. it was something that was very upsetting towards america.
to the irgc. that s sponsoring terrorism all around the world. you mentioned a former prime minister, i m sure prime minister netanyahu would fully support this. it was heard the allies called the president last night. this speech he gave today, this is what i was told about days ago by top people in the administration, so, this to me is the president working with allies, going forward to put restrictions on iran that have to be there. staying within the agreement to keep the allies intact but also putting final finally opening up a new strategic decision towards the united states and hopefully the world toward iran. you don t think the message to our allies is, if you make a deal with the united states we might not keep it? first of all, the allies are in more of agreement than you know. they knew what the president was going to say. this is working with the allies. this is bad for the united states. this is bad for the united states. it s also bad for other countries. they may
