a worthy winner i mean if you look at the oscar winners in years past they tend to either pick the academy tends to pick either a film that shows sort of the magic of cinema the visual splendor of the sort of fantasy of cinema or they go for a sort of socially aware film that shows the social power that cinema can have and this film kind of does both i mean it s a fantasy story it s a story of literally official water a. sort of alien like creature from the deep sea that falls in love with with a woman set in one nine hundred fifty s. american at the height of the cold war. but it s also some ways a story about giving voice to the voiceless because the two main characters the female character played by sally hawkins is mute she literally can t speak in the time one thousand fifties america where women have politically no voice almost no voice and the other character is this alien creature who can t can t communicate because he can t literally clearly can t speak so it s also in some wa
