reporter: at georgia s southern belle farm, it s the start of peach picking season. but a favorite tradition could be in jeopardy. typically, we see peaches almost falling off. yes. just hanging. the trees are weighted down. reporter: fifth generation farmer jake carter says this year s harvest is one of the worst he s ever seen. the cause? an unseasonably warm winter. last february was one of the warmest ever recorded in georgia, triggering some of the state s peach trees to bloom early. but then a cold spell hit, killing the crop, and essentially ending the season before it really even started. jake even resorted to hovering two helicopters over the trees, hoping to push the warm air down. still, he says he lost nearly 50% of his crop this year. what does this usually look like? i mean, you re usually looking at 200, 300 peaches on it. reporter: in middle georgia, the toll even worse. some farmers lost everything. according to at least one estimate, this year more than 90%
