The centre, which includes a 25m pool and flumes as well as a gym , sauna and steam room, wasn’t designed to cope with 2m social distancing, and there are serious technical issues with the water flow - its circulation doesn’t meet industry standard under COVID regulations.
Councillors at last week’s meeting of the housing and communities sub-committee were given an updated brief on the problems facing the centre.
Emma Walker, chief executive of the trust, said, every effort was being made to address the challenging issues.
She said: “A lot of work has gone on behind the scenes to get consultants in to come up with a plan for the short term and long term and get this facility back up to standard and into operation.”
