Before we get to what’s on tap for Olympics in primetime, can we just continue to share the joy we’re feeling over Tamyra Mensah-Stock’s gold medal win in Tokyo this week?!
The Morton Ranch High School grad and champion wrestler was celebrated after her win, but her reaction and interviews after the last match have really cemented her spot as one of the favorite athletes at the Games.
KPRC 2 Insiders on Click2Houston.com expressed excitement as well over Mensah-Stock’s Olympic success. One wrote “The pride of Texas and Katy! What a fabulous superstar!!! 🥰😍🤩❤❤❤❤❤”

It looks like she s found a new way to shine.
I gotta say, it would have been fun to cheer for a near-local athlete in the Tokyo Olympics, but such was not to be. After finishing in first place in the 100 meter with a time of 10.86 seconds at the US Olympic Track & Field Finals she was to be disqualified only days later for testing above the limit for THC. She admitted to smoking marijuana to help cope with the stresses of training for the Olympics and the death of her mother at the same time.
After completing a counseling program she agreed to a one month suspension and that pretty much shut down her Olympic dream. Sure, there was the outside chance that she d be invited to be part of the US Relay Team but that invitation never came.

Let the games begin! After a yearlong delay, the 2020 Tokyo Olympics are now set to commence with the Opening Ceremony on July 23, 2021. The time difference between Japan and the U.S. means that NBC’s live coverage of the events will happen in the early hours of the morning for U.S. viewers, and will largely happen on streaming service Peacock.
