Viktor Orbán, Hungarian form Orbán Viktor, (born May 31, 1963, Alcsútdoboz, Hungary), Hungarian politician who served as prime minister of Hungary (1998–2002; 2010– ). He was considered to be the first post-Cold War head of government in eastern and central Europe who had not been a member of a Soviet-era communist regime. Orbán received a law degree from the University of Budapest in 1987. The following year he gained a fellowship appointment at a central and eastern European research group sponsored by the Soros Foundation, a pro-democracy organization created by the financier George Soros.
