Towering over participants, Fetterman was introduced to several significant individuals and veterans in the cemetery, including one of the oldest stops in the walking tour, Black machinist William Wood, who died in 1867.
The Lebanon Cemetery was established in 1872, and it was one of the only places that accommodated African Americans until the 1960s.
Fetterman stared a while at a headstone knocked over, navigating holes from groundhogs and uneven chunks of grass. The cemetery was all very new to him.
“I grew up in York. I’ve driven by this countless times and I wasn’t aware of this,” Fetterman said.
