Back in March, we found out that Dutch designer and coachbuilder Niels van Roij had already selected the next project that would mesmerize or appall an entire world (beauty is in the eye of the beholder, remember). It was yet another Prancing Horse after the Ferrari Breadvan Hommage, and it’s probably going to be just as polarizing when complete.

Niels van Roij Design recently completed its Ferrari Breadvan Hommage, and the coachbuilder has decided to stick with a similar theme for its next project. The company has decided to build a modern take on the one-off Ferrari Daytona Shooting Brake from the 1970s.
Right now, the unique car only exists in renderings, but it s absolutely striking. The low-slung, point nose immediately recalls the actual Daytona. The somewhat bulbous extended rear with two glass panels separated in the middle is not a shape you expect to see on a Ferrari.

Do we really need to say any more than that? It’s more of the new Ferrari Breadvan Hommage by Niels Van Roij Design.
Based on a Ferrari 550 Maranello and given an extended tail to give it a Kamm back body style. Built to specifically resemble the 1962 “Breadvan” that was based on a 250 GT SWB and whose extended tail was designed by Giotto Bizzarini for Giovanni Volpi of Scuderia Serenissima.
The hommage does a really good job of recreating all of the original’s flourishes in the style of late ’90s Ferrari design language. The vents on the nose, for example, are pure Breadvan but expressed in the style of an F50. The tailpipes, too, take a cue from the original’s quad pipes, but they haven’t gone overboard and given it the full chrome trumpet treatment.

What you’re staring at is a one-off homage to Ferrari’s 250 GT SWB Breadvan racecar that first appeared at the 1962 24 Hours of Le Mans. The vintage-inspired bodywork is the brainchild of Dutch coachbuilder Niels van Roij Design and is commissioned by an anonymous client.
“We see it as a great privilege that we can honor the Breadvan through this Hommage commission,” said Van Roij. “It is a complex task to translate the essence of the legendry ’62 car into a contemporary design. We intend to be inspired by the old car, but will ensure we are not limited by it in our creativity.”
