Madison County paid former employee Kristen Poshard and her attorneys $850,000 to settle a lawsuit alleging she was wrongfully terminated for resisting sexual harassment by former county board member Phil Chapman.
According to the settlement agreement obtained pursuant to the Freedom of Information Act, Poshard received $100,000 for back wages and $402,894.44 for other losses. Poshard’s attorneys with Silverstein & Wolf LLC received $347,105.56 for fees and court costs.
Despite the settlement, the agreement states that defendants Kurt Prenzler, Doug Hulme, Phil Chapman and Madison County deny all allegations of wrongdoing.
Poshard voluntarily dismissed the case with prejudice on June 21 through attorney Ferne Wolf.

EAST ST. LOUIS – Kristen Poshard, who claims Madison County fired her for resisting harassment by former county board member Phil Chapman, will try to settle with Chapman and the county next month.
On Feb. 9, at the request of all parties, U.S. Magistrate Judge Gilbert Sison set a settlement conference March 25.
He directed the parties to deliver their positions under seal by March 18.
The county hired Poshard as chief deputy administrator for community development in 2016, at a salary of $92,000.
The county board terminated her in October 2017.
She sued the county, Chapman, county board chairman Kurt Prenzler, and former county administrator Doug Hulme in 2019.

In March 2019, Kristen Poshard filed suit against the county, alleging she was fired for complaining that board member Philip Chapman, of Highland, had repeatedly sexually harassed her in 2017 and that county administrators did nothing to stop it.
