Nomadland s name everywhere during this year s award season - it has scooped up almost every award that counts and is set to be the one to beat at the upcoming Academy Awards. But is it truly that good, or is it just another Oscar-bait created solely for the Hollywood palate that the general public will forget in a year?

The official synopsis reads: Following the economic collapse of a company town in rural Nevada, Fern (Frances McDormand) packs her van and sets off on the road exploring a life outside of conventional society as a modern-day nomad. The third feature film from director Chloé Zhao, NOMADLAND features real nomads Linda May, Swankie and Bob Wells as Fern’s mentors and comrades in her exploration through the vast landscape of the American West.

Nomadland, the latest from writer-director Chloe Zhao and an Oscar nominee for best picture, protagonist Fern (Frances McDormand) faces a blunt question from a young girl.
“My mom says that you’re homeless. Is that true?” the girl asks.
“No,” Fern replies. “I’m not homeless. I’m just houseless. Not the same thing, right?”
It would be easy to assume Fern is just trying to avoid being reduced to the fact that she lives in the back of her van. But Fern no longer needs a physical house to have a place that she can call home.
