The Chairman of Club Eirne assured delegates who attended Monday’s County Convention that it is still “open for business” and paid tribute to the loyalty of members and patrons who have stuck by them throughout a difficult 2020. In his address to the Convention Ger Treacy (pictured left) looked back at the year in which it was hoped that Club Eirne would reach £250,000 in fundraising. “After an encouraging start to the year things came to shuddering halt in March as we know at which time because of the uncertainty and the economic sensitivities that existed, we decided not to continue our proactive work in recruiting new members and patrons.
A Covid-19 wracked 2020 has meant that the income of the Fermanagh County Board almost halved as it fell from £1,011,022 to £598,217 in 2020. At the Fermanagh GAA County Convention, held virtually on Monday night, it was revealed that although there was also a drop in expenditure from £972,801 to £606,232, the fall income left the County Board with a deficit of just over £8,000. ‘Highest calibre’ Despite the deficit, County Board treasurer Sean Burns told delegates that he believes that there are people within Fermanagh and beyond of the “highest calibre with the vision and foresight to ensure adequate structures are in place to allow our young people to be the best that they can be”.
