The sculptural building provides a landmark hub for a new neighbourhood
Located in the evolving district of Fengdong near the historic Chinese city of Xi’an, the LAND Community Centre aims to be a social and cultural hub for the neighbourhood. Conceived as a ‘floating gateway’ for a new residential development, the 4,500 sq m project has been designed by EID Architecture, a practice based in Shanghai and Hong Kong and led by architect Ping Jiang.
LAND comprises a community service centre, cafe, gallery, flexible spaces for education and recreation, a daycare centre for children, a gym, sports courts and a subterranean swimming pool. The underground spaces are organised around a sunken oval courtyard featuring a Zen garden.
