It would be difficult to overstate Henry Aaron s impact on not just baseball, but the nation. Yes, he broke Babe Ruth s home run record in 1974, but Aaron s journey from Mobile, Alabama, to baseball s Hall of Fame was a fraught and complicated one. Back in the mid-1950s, when kids in Fergus Falls played sandlot baseball, the Milwaukee Braves were considered âour teamâ as far as major league baseball was concerned.
Those were the days prior to the first season of the Minnesota Twins, in 1961. Many kids saw their first major league baseball game at County Stadium in Milwaukee.
The star player for Milwaukee back then was Hank Aaron.
The memories of those good old days came to mind after hearing of Aaronâs passing on Jan. 22. Many of us recalled the days when we watched Hank play for the Braves in Milwaukee on black and white TV.

Ben Geraghty was like a patron saint to me, a man who faced insurmountable odds stacked against him and someone that lived a purposeful life.

Over 23 Major League seasons, from Milwaukee to Atlanta and back again, he established the all-time record for RBIs (2,297) and total bases (6,856) while collecting 3,771 hits (third all-time).
