Uruguay was a relative haven from the COID 19 pandemic in 2020, now it has one of the highest infection rates in the world.
Through much of last year Uruguay had new daily cases in single digit or low double digit figures, as the virus was running running rampant in neighbouring Brazil, and to a lesser extent in Argentina,
It didn t last, by April this year Uruguay had the highest infection rate per head of population in the world, averaging over 3,000 new cases a day since Easter.
