HPD meets with families to discuss violent crime crisis
HOUSTON – Still in pain and recovering after being shot nearly three weeks ago, Anthony Perez, who spokes to KPRC 2 from his hospital bed, said he’s now paralyzed from the waist down.
He said he was an innocent bystander caught in the crossfire of a drive-by at a convenience store along Northborough.
“It’s not safe out there and I’m living proof of that. I shouldn’t have been hit by a stray bullet, I shouldn’t have been hit by bullet period,” said Perez.
Walking up to Grooves on Pierce and Bastrop you can hear and feel the music pulsing through the front doors of the building on a Saturday afternoon. It’s not out of the ordinary for any bar or lounge on Sunday Funday. What is out of the ordinary is the number of people in the building.
Grooves, known for its drinks, nightlife, and crowds, is noticeably light on customers, something not unexpected during this pandemic. Patrons dance and drink as servers donning masks tend to tables making sure drinks, food, and hookah coals are replenished.
