but the damage done in parts of your town. it is just harrowing. the water spout was really, really bad. probably the worst water spout we ever had. talk to me about seeing that. what happened? it was just one of the feeder bands of the storm that came in and did a water spout. i was down there immediately after it happened. i just could not believe the damage from the water spout. sometimes you get small water spouts but this was a really, really large water spout. it did a lot of damage there at the rv park. it was just really sad to see. there were still several people inside the mobile homes when it happened. believe it or not, they came out with minor injuries. so that was a miracle in itself. describe the scene, describe the damage that you saw. oh, there were trailers on top of each other, trailers just destroyed.
help. andrea snu. thank you, stay safe. al roker, what is the storm track right now? you ve been tracking dorian all week. back in the weather center in new york. what are we seeing going up the coast? we re seeing this behaving more like a traditional hurricane. it s been defying conventions over the last several weeks. and basically it was where it made landfall, you can see cape hatteras. a little further to the south, this thing would have hugged the coast and then gone out into the atlantic without making landfall. now it has. you can see it is according to the national hurricane center still a category 1. i want you to look, though, just at how wide the feeder bands are. if you look above this band where it says tracking dorian, you can actually see rainfall now making its way into long island. that s how far this is. we re talking about 400 miles.
lookout as the winds come in perpendicular. if you notice these feeder bands, this is a good 118 miles to wilmington. but the feeder bands are well in advance, this is a scene that some of the heaviest rainfall. we call it training, where it s one thunderstorm after another. so flooding taking place with these feeder bands, well before the center moves to this region. flooding could be a big issue, not to mention as you said, the storm surge of 4 to 8 feet. i think there s a possibility of a land fall, but it doesn t matter. the core of strong winds is getting closer and closer to the coastline. one thing we know for sure, there will never be another storm named dorian. this one will never be used again. yes, that makes perfect sense. tom sater, thank you very much. this afternoon, south carolina governor had a blunt warning for anyone thinking about going out into the storm.
sky. literally we re seeing this frequently here. those are transformers popping in the distance and the strong wind gusts batter this area. we ve had sheet metal flapping in the distance as well. these telltale signs that the hurricane is getting closer and closer. that s exactly what it s going to do as it brings the eye wall closer to the south carolina coast and that is where the heaviest rainfall is going to set up. we had some feeder bands earlier. new this morning, christine, flash flood warning just alerted on my phone in effect from charleston to the historic district area. the police are alread cordoning off roadways. there s also tornado warnings taking place in the myrtle beach region just to our north and east. this is a very fluid situation quite literally and figurative y figuratively, i guess. this is going to be a long
