Okay nerds; you asked so I made. After the conclusion of the 2014 season, Kirk Ferentz put out a post-bowl depth chart exclusively for the purpose of putting transfer risk redshirt sophomore C.J. Beathard ahead of redshirt junior Jake Rudock, who had been starting the shared situation by nature of being the slightly better quarterback. He got the hint and transferred to Michigan; while Beathard kept the Iowa gig another two years. That's why it says "Jake Rudock Memorial" on the final edition of Michigan's Fee Fi Foe Film graphic. The rest should be self-explanatory, or is explained on the key. Postseason updates: Barner got a shield, Trente Jones got a star, and I thought about giving one to Mullings as well. A larger version of the diagram is here. A PDF of this and all of our 2023 opponents is here. There's nothing after the jump.
Michigan's one biggest unfilled need in the 2024 class was a pass-rushing edge. They had one of their favorite ceilings in Elias Rudolph out of Cincinnati, but That Miami yanked him out in mid-August. They had a high floor too in Jacob Smith, but both he and his heavier twin Jerod decommitted for Kentucky. Jerod was no big loss given Michigan had a high ceiling and floor committed for the Heavy position in Devon Baxter and Dominic Nichols, respectively. But Michigan has been wanting a freaky edge-bender since Ojabo left early, and suddenly found themselves back in the mixer for the senior risers, basketball switchers, late growth spurts, and scouting finds. Fee Fi Foe Film is back for another season with its most twisted concoction yet: full film breakdown of UNLV against Bryant. That's UNLV, a Mountain West program that has appeared in two bowl games in your author's lifetime (and just one in the past two decades), against Bryant, an FCS program that went 4-7 last season. The game was not on regular television but instead on Mountain West Network streaming. It was played in 65,000 seat Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas and only 20,347 showed up for it. Why are you reading this? Because you're a SICK person. The Film: UNLV has played one game this season. It is against Bryant. Normally I don't do FCS games but the constraints are forcing us, it's week one. This is the only opponent. Also, because UNLV has a new coach and a totally different offensive scheme, I can't go back to last season and do a game. I did not want to have to do this game but here we are. One of the unfortunate consequences of having to
The 2022 college football regular season has come to an end and, aligning with the end of the calendar year, I thought it was time for some reflection. David and I have a long-running gag on the HockeyCast where I say that I am not a scout and he responds that I am- while I maintain that I am indeed not an NFL Draft or NBA scout, I do have to admit that at least in the region of college football I am. That's the basis of what Fee Fi Foe Film is. Moreover, by doing my "The Enemy, Ranked" series back in August, I am also in small part a forecaster. If you are a scout or a forecaster (or both), and you want to be honest and accountable, you have to admit you get things wrong. Being open about what you got wrong is actually a routine exercise for people in this business; The Athletic's NHL Draft scout Corey Pronman does regular pieces about prospects he was a wrong about, and one of my one-time favorite elections forecasters, Harry Enten, used to do "What I Was
