Fake FedEx courier scam: A Bengaluru-based woman lawyer claims she was forced to strip on camera and extorted out of Rs 15 lakh by scamster posing as a FedEx agent.
The Bengaluru IT firm CEO got a call from an unknown number on February 6 who claimed to an executive working for FedEx courier in Mumbai and later from another person who impersonated as a policeman and eventually lost Rs 2.3 crore in eight transactions.
The incident took place on December 15 when the 70-year-old woman got a WhatsApp call in which the Bengaluru-based journalist said that there was a parcel in her name that contained 240 grams of MDMA, credit cards and passport that was being sent from Mumbai to Taiwan.
Cyber fraudsters, posing as FedEx courier staff and a Narcotics Control Bureau official, told the woman that they claimed to possess a parcel in her name that contained illegal items.
