BERNAMA KUALA LUMPUR: For the second year in a row, Muslims in the country today celebrated Aidilfitri in a new normal, strictly adhering to standard operating procedure (SOP) in the battle against the COVID-19 pandemic. The spirit behind the month of Syawal, where the Hari Raya Aidilfitri is usually celebrated in a joyous mood, this year it was celebrated in moderation and conviction due to the nationwide Movement Control Order (MCO) enforced to contain the outbreak, without the usual house-to-house visits, limiting the usual congregational prayers in mosques and the customary grave-site visits.

Govt to scrutinise issues of insurance coverage for visitors to Saudi Arabia

Bernama KUALA LUMPUR: The government will further discuss and scrutinise the issues related to the new conditions announced by the Saudi Arabian government for all visitors arriving in the Kingdom to have insurance coverage against Covid-19 infection risks. Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Seri Dr Zulkifli Mohamad Al-Bakri (pix) said they will have to look into the official statement on the matter first. “For me, it is not a big problem because we have a lot of accredited insurance companies and agents, but we will look at it (the issues) one by one,” he said after attending the launch of Mosque as Transit Centre for Victims of Domestic Violence at Federal Territory Mosque here today.

Rina Harun: All should work to end physical, mental abuse of women

PETALING JAYA: Everyone should do their part to end the physical and mental abuse of women at home, says Datuk Seri Rina Harun. The Women, Family and Community Development Minister said that 902 domestic violence cases were recorded in the first four months of this year. “This clearly shows that the issue of domestic violence requires the intervention and cooperation from all parties, ” she said in her speech at the launch of an event to create transit centres for domestic violence victims in mosques here on Tuesday (May 4). She said that police data showed that 5,260 investigation papers were opened involving domestic violence cases.
