James Byrne

James M. Byrne is a Professor in the School of Criminology and Justice Studies at the University of Massachusetts Lowell, where he has taught since 1984. Professor Byrne received his undergraduate degree in Sociology (Summa cum Laude) from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst (1977), and his Masters (1980) and Doctoral degree (1983) in Criminal Justice from Rutgers University. Since 2008, he has served as the Editor-in-Chief of the journal, Victims and Offenders: An International Journal of Evidence-based Research, Policy and Practice. Mattoon Police Recent Activity

The following information comes from the Mattoon Police Department:   Mattoon Police arrested Christopher A. Nelson, 39 years of age of Chicago, IL, for the offense of Domestic Battery. The arrest occurred on 12/12/20 at 5:29pm at Mattoon PD.  The charge alleges that on 12/12/20 while in the 1800 block of S. 9th Street, and during a domestic dispute, Mr. Nelson punched a female in the face.  Mr. Nelson is currently on Federal Probation for drug offenses, and was taken to the Coles County Jail for the battery offense.
