My encounter with Fashola the great teacher

My encounter with Fashola the great teacher On By Soni Daniel, Northern Region Editor Let me start with a Caveat: Don’t ever start an argument with this tall and brilliant man if you’re not well armed with the facts of the matter you want to take him on! I won’t forget in a hurry that fierce argument between me and Babatunde Raji Fashola, Nigeria’s current Minister of Works and Housing. Fashola is a tough and brilliant guy-you can’t take that from him. He remains resolute and unrelenting on matters and issues he believes in. But one thing that boldly defines him till date is his profound humility and calmness even in the face of provocation and above all, a boundless respect for people-younger, older and peers.

Daily Trust - Kaduna residents protest outrageous electricity billings,

Chairman of the MPH electricity committee, Abdulrauf Taha, told Daily Trust that the residents of the community have had several meetings with KEDCO and NERC, yet they are slammed with outrageous bills of between N40,000 to N250,000 monthly. Taha said: “These outrageous bills are coming in monthly. We have a situation whereby a one-bedroom apartment is billed N170,000 and a three bedroom is billed N250,000. In fact, the least bill is about N40,000. So we don’t know the criteria they are using and the question is, what happened to the government’s capping systems?” He described the several meetings with NERC and the disco as fruitless since KEDCO had not implemented any of the recommendations and is yet to be sanctioned by the regulatory agency.

Although he has the desire to construct more roads and housing projects, the challenges posed by inadequate funding and lockdown occasioned by the ravaging Covid-19 pandemic, held back the progress of work and caused some adjustments in the process. But that notwithstanding, the Minister is optimistic that the ministry will still deliver on the legacy projects of the Buhari administration.

In this interview by SUNDAY ADEPOJU, the Waziri Jari Nupe reflects on the vacuum left by the former governor, the leadership tussle in the state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the need for technocrats to join politics, among others.   TODAY, former governor of Oyo State, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, would have clocked 71 years. Can you reminisce on his leadership in the state? His leadership was excellent because he lived his life wholeheartedly fulfilling. Even, when he died at 70, we can’t say he died young. He tried his best and he was privileged to be the first governor to serve two terms in the history of the state. He achieved a lot in terms of infrastructure, security and with what is happening now, you can’t but just appreciate him for his eight years. There are more challenges now than before. A leader must
