Accident and Emergency Departments in england had their worst waiting time performance in january since targets were introduced 13 years ago. Provisional figures leaked to the bbc also suggest that a record numbers of patients have had to wait on trolleys for a bed to become available. The Department Of Health insists the vast majority of patients are treated quickly. Patients are traditionally supposed to be seen and discharged within four hours, with a target of 95 . But the bbc has learnt the provisional figures forjanuary show only 82 were seen within

During a difficult winter for the nhs, january seems to be the worst performing month in the past 13 years. The bma said the Prime Minister could no longer bury her head in the sand over increasing pressure in the nhs. And it accused the government of failing to grasp the seriousness of the situation.
