is at 4.7%. christina, the administration can tout these figures but can they actually claim credit for the president for these good numbers? unclear, wolf. you have the president re-twe re-tweeting some of these positive headlines today. what s really important is put them in historical perspective here. february is usually a very strong month for jobs. you look back the last three februarys in a row, we have almost the same rate of growth, same number of jobs created every february for the last three. unclear how much credit he can take. also you pointed out the unemployment rate is at 4.7%. we ve been below 5% for nearly a year now. this trend has been going on for quite some time. that s not going to prevent probably president trump from taking credit for it. he actually also may point to
added 235,000 net new jobs in february. the unemployment rate ticked down to 4.7%. for reference, this is a big number. we ve averaged 196,000 a month over the last year. but if you go back to the last three februarys, there were at least this big or more. there is nothing particular about the brand-new government s policies that have caused that number. joining me now, the professor of engineering at carnegie mellon. and michael, the managing partner of heroic ventures and founder of reputation.com. these are big gains by any measure. as you and i have discussed, because of automation and technology, some are estimating as one-third of blue collar and white collar jobs could become obsolete by 2025. you ve talked about so-called jobless future because of robots and smart machines and automation and artificial intelligence. what do you think of this?
and that s chicago. heading into chicago winters, right? how about atlanta, the warmest february on record, looks like a sure bet. there are many other cities in the top five for warmest februarys of all time, including areas like richmond and norfolk and washington, d.c., possibly even up to new york city. and it continues for the last day of february. record highs possible today in columbia, memphis, paducah, indianapolis, just short, and chicago a degree or two short. and then we start march with incredible warmth all the way up the east coast, near record highs, new york, boston, d.c., norfolk and raleigh. so we re getting done with an incredibly warm winter. and especially in the eastern half of the country, guys. we didn t have a lot of snow and the temperatures have been really almost spring-like all winter long. i know. and then there s the west coast. well, that s a different story, because they had a blockbuster winter. unbelievable. bill, thank you for that. still ah
thunderstorms literally producing so cold at the surface you get snow falling out of the thunderstorms. amazing sfuf.e inging stuff. now it s in washington, d.c. and approaching philadelphia. morning commute will be on the slippery side. a lot of school delays around philly and d.c. school cancelations around the richmond and norfolk areas. as we go through the afternoon, even new york city could see snowflakes. maybe a coating. boston to the cape could get a coating around 1:00 or 2:00. then the storm is gone. unfortunately what s behind the storm not many of you are going to like. it s another blast of arctic air moving down through the great lakes. windchills this morning are in the negative 20 to 30 range in the great lakes. and tomorrow that will be in the northeast. we end february the exact way we started. this is going to go down as one of the all-time coldest februarys for many februarys. march is looking better. more on that next week. more on morning joe coming up. snowfla
afghanistan? the biggest problem that our februarys are telling us they re facing, especially this year, honestly, suicide. and there s definitely a mental health crisis that needs to be addressed, and we need an expansion of mental health services and resources. another thing congress can help dop with passing the suicide prevention for americans veterans acts. suicide has been the number one issue raised and flagged to us by iraq and afghanistan veterans returning home. so the question now after sloane gibson, who should take over the v.a.? there are media outlets with lists, washington post that one out. a few names discussed. senator jack reid, admiral mike mullen, general chiarelli, jim r webb and talk about chief of staff ray odierno. who would you add to this list or is there one name you want to endorse? we re certainly not endorsing anyone in particular, but i ve heard some of the same names
