African Selection Trust (AST) chairperson Adriaan Louw has accused Fishcor board chairperson Mihe Gaomab II of being dishonest about a 9 000-tonne fishing quota allocated to a joint-venture company both have shares in.
The joint-venture company, Seaflower Pelagic Processing (SPP), had been accused of misappropriating the quota allocation by Fishcor.
Gaomab, for his part, said at a press conference this week that there was a high level of distrust regarding AST and any relationship it had with the company.

Local former minority shareholders of the Heinaste, a fishing vessel owned by Fishrot-embroiled Icelandic company Sahmherji, are challenging the decisions by the offices of the prosecutor-general (PG) and attorney-general (AG) to sanction the sale of the vessel to Tunacor Fishing for N$274 million without their involvement and consent.
Payment for the vessel would be made in instalments between now and the year 2023, documents reveal.
The former minority shareholders in the Heinaste, which has since been rechristened the Tutungeni, include Epango Fishing, Yukor Fishing and Sinco Fishing, while its majority shareholder is Samherji through local subsidiary, Esja Investments.

Employees at state fishing company Fishcor did not receive their salaries yesterday as expected, while portions of their December salaries also remain unpaid.
Fishcor is at the centre of an investigation of the Fishrot bribery scheme, where over N$75 million was clandestinely siphoned out of the company by powerful politicians – portions of which funded activities of the Swapo elective congress of 2017.
Fishcor board chairperson Mihe Gaomab II says the company is working to ensure workers are paid for December and January.
Fishcor’s employees did not receive their full December and yesterday they did not receive their January salaries, normally paid on the 25th of each month.
