during her interview with the committee on february 23rd, she was repeatedly asked about the story she had heard about trump in the presidential suv on january 6th demanding he be taken to the capitol. hutchinson, at the advice of her lawyer, continually tells the committee she cannot recall any details about that, even though she can. quote, i felt this moral struggle, she later admitted. i was trying so hard to be loyal to the president and to be loyal to her former boss, white house chief of staff mark meadows, and to be loyal to the trump white house, but in the back of my mind, too, i just kept thinking, like, this is wrong, i don t like who i m being right now, unquote. in april, cassidy hutchinson reads a legal brief filed by the committee and sees excerpts of that february testimony, quote, i kept reading how i was responding to questions and the i don t recalls and dancing around my responses, completely hedging for trump and mark meadows, where i was sticking up
peace talks? to everything there is a season, and i think right now neither side is ready to sit down at the table. they could sit down at the table today if russia would stop it attacks on ukraine, right. russia because it says it wants peace is doing the exact opposite. the ukrainians understand if they go to a peace table right now there are going to be compromises that they will not be able to live with long term and that russia will just regroup and rearm and come back later for more. that s what happened in 2014, 2015 with the minsk agreements where there was a cease-fire and we got to what are now being called the february 23rd lines, and so i think the ukrainians don t want to make that mistake again. this is about their existential their very existence. ambassador yovanovitch, it s great to see you.
know, from the kremlin bunker this is not how modern war is waged. in addition, any mobilization is being protested right now but would take time to actually stand up including training and getting them ready to actually go into battle. the eu has said that they will be imposing a new round of sanctions in retaliation for any, quote, sham elections that are going to take place according to putin in the russian-occupied parts of ukraine. and that is meant to be starting, these sham elections, tomorrow. for their part the ukrainians are saying now is the time to give us the weaponry we need to make good on the progress that we ve already made and to help us keep territory and keep pushing russia back to the february 23rd borders. so that s essentially what is going on right now. i know you re also following the dramatic, very intensifying protests that are going on in
some point for russia. i completely support the sanctions that have laid down on russia thus far. all of the efforts that we have done to support ukraine. but when ukraine pushes russia back at least, you know, to the pre-february 23rd borders, and it is clear to putin that he will not be able to destroy ukraine and take it over as he intended, that is an opportunity for peace. but if we put russia into that category, the category that iran and north korea is, that makes it far more difficult for them to come to the peace table. i don t think the benefit is worth the risk. you know, we will keep monitoring or i ll keep monitoring the situation to see if there is an argument i m not seeing, but i think the current sanctions campaign is the right way to go. making them a state sponsor of terror i think would be very difficult to get to that off ramp and ultimately get to a peace deal and what is what we want. we don t want this war to go on. we don t russia to be destroyed.
