For the past week Australia has been making headlines in India for all the wrong reasons. Allegations that spectators racially abused Indian players at the Sydney cricket Test last weekend were big news on the subcontinent.
“Sydney racism shocker” was the title for one program on the popular television channel CNN-News 18, “Aus cricket’s racism history” screamed another. Republic TV, known for its nationalist rhetoric, reported there was “national anger” over the alleged slurs.
