The Fatima Lady Comets were 9-of-10 at the free-throw line in the final two-plus minutes Monday night on their way to a 48-36 victory against the Liberty: Mountain View Lady Eagles in Class 3 girls state sectional action.
It wasn’t quite the finish the Fatima Lady Comets hoped for. But the Staley Falcons had a lot to do with that. “That’s an athletic team, they’re way bigger than we are, quick, they are going to win a pile of basketball games,” Fatima coach Matt Baker said Friday night after the Lady Comets dropped a 57-37 decision to the Falcons in the title game of the Jefferson Bank Holiday Hoops Classic at Capital City High School.
There will be a new champion crowned in this year’s Jefferson Bank Holiday Hoops Classic. The Hickman Kewpies dropped out this season after winning the girls’ tournament championship last year and will be replaced by a team taking its first shot at the Classic.
