With words, prayers and flowers, victims of violent crimes were remembered in Battle Creek on Thursday. About 75 people gathered downtown at Friendship Park on the edge of the Battle Creek River for the Crime Victims Rights Week Candlelight Vigil. Battle Creek Police Chief Jim Blocker said victims must cope with physical and emotion trauma well beyond the actual crimes. We are here to advocate for the people who suffer, he said. They have to relive it over and over. He said the memories of violent crime can be triggered years later. This is just a small way to support your healing, he said about the gathering.
