Notre Dame graduate and longtime faculty member Fr. Robert Dowd will take over as the university’s next president, effective July 1. He will succeed Fr. John Jenkins, who announced in October that he would step down from the position.

The president-elect, a 1987 Notre Dame graduate, began working in the university’s campus ministry in 1994 after taking his final vows in the Congregation of.
The Congregation of Holy Cross priest and associate professor of political science, who serves as a current vice president, will replace Father John I. Jenkins.
