kids, it s all subdivisions, homes packed very closely together. newer construction than some of the older towns in oklahoma. and, you know, this happened at a time of day that hopefully a lot of people were off at work and not in their homes. when you look at this, talking about the hospital and the school and it s horrible. but most of what we re looking at are residential homes. and when it comes to how high is this number going to be? where are the missing people? at this point, they don t even know who s missing and who s not. right. and that s the scary part. and the phone lines are jammed. people can t find out, you know, somebody could ve called in sick that day and wasn t expected to be home during this. or somebody was elderly and didn t have the tv on or something like that. and, of course we don t know where they are. they focus so much on the children because they were still in school. i want to bring in bill karins, of course, with perspective on the meteorolo
road of speculation on this, either. but why did local television go that high so early in this reporting. . you know, i think they probably spoke with someone and someone was just giving a guess. and why they were guessing that number, you know, i couldn t say. i don t think they really had anything to base that number on unless they were looking at one of the damaged areas, unless they assumed there was an apartment complex that was heavily damaged and there was a nursing home not terribly far away. i m thinking someone just extrapolated numbers. i m not sure where those came up with. yes, just repeating, we have no idea at this point on those fatality numbers. and authorities wanting people to steer clear on any suggestions on any particular number. ken sorey there, many thanks to you for joining us. coming um here on world
is there anything to indicate from the radio traffic that it would have been intentionally set? nothing at this point indicates that we have had criminal activity. however, we are absolutely not ruling that out. the investigators will keep an open mind and they will determine as they get through this investigation. was this an all-volunteer fire department? i don t have an answer to that question. i m not sure. what were they fighting the fire with? i know they had their apparatus there and trucks was it water? sir, don t have the answer to that. yes, sir. the casualties, you re talking fatalities i didn t say 15 to 20. i said anywhere from 5 to 15 is the fatality numbers. we know we ve had at least 160-plus injuries treated at the hospital.
