The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba says that police officers did not do anything wrong after a 42-year-old man died following an arrest in August 2019.
Police were called to the 800 block of Consol Ave. in Elmwood just after midnight on August 2, 2019, for a domestic incident. When officers arrived a man fled and a foot pursuit ensued, the IIU says in its report.
The pursuit came to an end in the 900 block of Consol Ave. The man was uncooperative with officers in the arrest and a Taser was deployed. The man became unresponsive a short time later and was taken to St. Boniface Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
