Controversy has continued to trail the setting up of the Western Nigeria Security Network (WNSN), popularly known as Amotekun, following allegations of abuse against the initiative even as some states in the South-West continue to dilly-dally about it, Daily Trust can report.
Amnesty International, human rights activists and some lawyers on Thursday urged federal authorities to caution those behind Amotekun before the security outfit further degenerates into a militia group.

A member of the Oyo State Security Network also known as Amotekun Corps has shot a police officer in Oyo town.
DAILY POST gathered that the police officer, Mr. Fatai Yekini was shot by an Amotekun Corps member identified as Ibrahim Ogundele at the Sanga area of Oyo town on Saturday.
Ogundele is a male officer working with the Amotekun Corps at Isale-Oyo area while Mr. Yekini is a Special Police Constabulary attached to Ojongbodu police station
A source told DAILY POST on Sunday that Yekini was shot on his left leg at a very close range, around 3:00pm on the 2nd January 2021.

An operative of the Oyo State Security Network, known as Amotekun Corps, identified as Ibrahim Ogundele has been apprehended for allegedly shooting a police special constable in Oyo town area of the state, Nigerian Tribune authoritatively gathered.
A credible source hinted our correspondent that the bullet fired by the Amotekun operative hit the special constable, identified as Fatai Yekini on his left thigh, but he was promptly rushed to the General Hospital at Owode area of Oyo town for medical attention.
The alleged shooting was said to have occurred while the Police and Amotekun operatives attempted to dislodge some youths who organised a street carnival at Sanga are of Oyo town on Saturday.

An operative of the Oyo State Security Network Agency otherwise known as Amotekun has shot a policeman, Fatai Yekini, in Oyo town.
The Amotekun officer identified as Ibrahim Ogundele was said to have opened fire on one of the policemen immediately they arrived at a carnival to dislodge attendees.
The incident was said to have happened around 3 pm on Saturday around Sanga area of Oyo town.
It was gathered that the operative was promptly arrested and has been put in police custody while the injured cop is said to be receiving treatment in hospital.
