Enyimba well prepared for Wednesday s CAF Confederation Cup

Enyimba head coach, Fatai Osho insists his team is well prepared for Wednesday’s CAF Confederation Cup awayclash against South Africa’s Orlando Pirates. The Peoples Elephant will look to build on their impressive 2-1 home win against Ahli Benghazi of Libya on matchday one when they come up against the Buccaneers at the 37,000 capacity Orlando Stadium in Soweto. Enyimba lost 1-0 to Pirates on their previous visit to the Orlando Stadium in 2006, but Osho insists things will be different this time around. Captain of the team, Austine Oladapo, who scored a superb goal against Ahli Benghazi is also upbeat they can beat their hosts.

Buoyed by the goal, the two-time CAF Champions League winners camped fully in their opponents half, combining well in possession and retaining the ball well in the final third. However, they couldn’t create clear-cut chances and looked open without the ball, despite Fatai Osho’s three-man defence set up. The handful of Enyimba fans were then silenced in the 18th minute when the visitors restored parity from the spot after a foul by Enyimba midfielder Omaka Chukwudi on Abdalla Mohamed. Mohamed took the penalty himself to make it 1-1. Undeterred, Enyimba continued to pile pressure on their opponents and were rewarded with another goal just before halftime through Victor Mbaoma.

Nigerian Predator Mbaoma Gives Enyimba Winning Start

Victor Mbaoma enhanced his reputation as a penalty area predator by scoring the winner as Enyimba edged Al Ahly Benghazi of Libya 2-1 Wednesday on CAF Confederation Cup matchday 1. Entente Setif of Algeria and Orlando Pirates of South Africa battled to a 0-0 draw in another high-profile match in the African equivalent of the UEFA Europa League. There was no joy for the two Zambian hopefuls with Nkana crashing 3-0 to Pyramids in Egypt and NAPSA Stars falling 2-0 to title-holders Renaissance Berkane in Morocco. Tunisian clubs Etoile Sahel and record three-time Confederation Cup winners CS Sfaxien fared better with home victories over Jaraaf of Senegal and Salitas of Burkina Faso.
