Here s how to support SJ County businesses and double your money

San Joaquin County customers can now have their money doubled when spending at local businesses. The RAD Gift Card program will match funds up to $100 when loaded onto a digital gift card via the program s app. Nearly 50 local businesses in Manteca, Ripon, Stockton, Tracy and Lodi have signed up to participate.  Many businesses across the state have taken a substantial financial hit due to COVID-19 restrictions after California largely shutdown last March to help slow the spread of the virus.  From restaurants and nail shops to childcare providers and small, independent retailers, the COVID-19 pandemic has caused a major economic shock to our local businesses across San Joaquin County, S.J County Supervisor Kathy Miller said in a statement last week following the program s launch in the county.  The goal of the RAD Card program is to create a booming local stimulus incentive to bring in bustling business and help local business owners recover and receive the support need

Stockton Restaurant Week returns amid COVID-19 with focus on takeout

STOCKTON – Restaurants have been hit particularly hard from the COVID-19 pandemic. This month, area residents can show their support for restaurants and experience the important role the culinary arts play in tourism throughout the region with the return of Stockton Restaurant Week, Jan. 15-24 at more than 30 participating restaurants. For the 12th year, restaurants across Stockton will curate special menus for take-out due to restrictions on indoor and outdoor dining imposed by state and local public health officials related to COVID-19.  In November, the National Restaurant Association Research Group surveyed 6,000 restaurant operators and 250 supply chain businesses nationwide and found that, since March, 17% of U.S. restaurants more than 110,000 establishments have closed permanently or long-term, according to Capital Press.
