In response to the lack of access to safe drinking water by around 2 billion people, the World Bank Group and partners have launched the have joined forces to create the Strategic Framework for Scaling Up Finance for Water.
Floods, droughts, and poor sanitation are three facets of the global water crisis, which can be summed up in terms of too much, too little, and too polluted. Today, 1.81 billion people face significant flood risk, 2.3 billion lack access to safely managed water, and 3.5 billion lack access to safely managed sanitation. These challenges are exacerbated by the intensifying effects of climate change, rapid population growth, and rising food insecurity.
As its 2023 annual report shows, the Global Water Security and Sanitation Partnership (GWSP) has the skills, tools, and expertise to scale up impact. GWSP supports and enables governments to develop solutions and increase investment for a water-secure world. It provides assessments and tools to design programs, builds capacity to effectively implement programs, provides policy advice to establish an enabling environment, and brings global expertise to solve complex challenges.
