Fresh takes on classic sandwiches at Mae s in Marshfield

Mae s is the namesake of Price s aunt, who died about 10 years ago and was the oldest of six kids on her dad s side, she said. Price said her aunt was a positive, generous person who took care of everyone, from her siblings, who she practically raised, to her grandkids and nieces and nephews. When it came time to name the sandwich shop, Price said it seemed like a nice, sweet name that later resonated with others who have come into the shop telling them about their great aunts and grandmothers named Mae. The sandwich shop is situated right across the road from the water, and was inspired by the idea of a shop close to the beach for people to grab sandwiches, chips and drinks before heading to the shore during the summer, Price said.

Let s Eat, Ledgerland: Dine, drink on the patio at the Range in Hingham

HINGHAM The sun is shining, the outdoor patio facing the driving range is open for business and fruity seasonal cocktails are back on the menu at The Range Bar & Grille in Hingham.  Owner Will O Connell said they opened the patio for the spring and summer season a few weeks ago at the Hingham property, which also boasts a driving range and golf course, and had a line out the door.  The light at the end of the tunnel is getting a little bit bigger and brighter, O Connell said. We have to continue to reinvent ourselves and that s what I m certainly not afraid to do.

From croissants to cakes, Keegan Kreations in Plymouth hits sweet spot

PLYMOUTH Keegan and Yilin Yee started with $25 in their pocket when they came to their first farmer s market in Weymouth with a few croissants, sticky buns and cupcakes. When they got home they saw a review on their Facebook page from a customer that said: This double chocolate croissant was worth the two-hour drive from Cape Cod.   Ever since, Keegan Kreations has been known for their croissants and the Yees grew a a steady stream of customers. My wife and I run a commercial kitchen, and we went from 10 croissants produced to like a thousand croissants that we sold out every week, Keegan Yee said. We even had a line of people waiting to buy our croissants every weekend, no matter what farmers market we went to.

Brant Rock Hop: 50s-style diner and comfort food that hits the spot

MARSHFIELD Put on your blue suede shoes and get ready to rock n roll when you step inside Marshfield s Brant Rock Hop a 50s-style American diner with a working jukebox.  For the past decade, customers sought out the diner s milkshakes and decadent stacks of Cinnabon and birthday cake pancakes. Brant Rock Hop was opened by Marshfield couple Nick and Shannan Drosopoulos, after finding inspiration from their Honeymoon trip to Disney s Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater restaurant.  They serve both sweet and savory classic breakfast and lunch foods, from pancakes to eggs, bacon, and home fries, as well as paninis, burgers and sandwiches. Many items on the menu are named after 50s-era Hollywood movie stars, such as Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn.

French macarons are the stars at Farmhouse Baking Co in Weymouth

Michael and Jess Anderson were looking to try a new recipe one night when they came across the French macaron, one of the most difficult cookies to bake from scratch. The couple enjoys cooking their meals and baking bread from scratch and loves a challenge, so they tried it; and failed horribly. It s an extremely difficult cookie to make and definitely the reason why nobody else does it, Michael Anderson said. The French macaron, not to be confused with a macaroon, requires a very specific technique and can be a stressful process, as we see every season in The Great British Bake Off. The meringue has to be a certain thickness, the oven the perfect temperature and the air has to be dry, which means on humid days the cookies risk not rising.
