The free to download app, available in English and malayalam, provides cultivation practices of over 100 crops
To reach out with more services to the farming community, Kerala Agricultural University has re-launched the new version of its mobile application Farm Extension Manager.
Available both in English and Malayalam languages on the Android platform for free download, the users can get the scientific cultivation practices of over 100 crops. Once the language is selected, the user can proceed through the ten broad categories of information.
The crop cultivation section gives the information on planting, varieties, fertiliser use, after-care and harvest. The recommendations are made available in a ready-to-use format. Similarly, the plant protection section covers symptoms and management of over 2,000 insect, disease and deficiency disorders. The management regime gives equal emphasis on organic and inorganic methods.
Shallot prices tending to move north

Incessant rains and conducive climate are said to have triggered the infestation in the major tracts of Perambalur, Thuraiyur, Kallakurichi in Tamil Nadu. Around 9,000 hectares of crop area is estimated to have been affected.
The Farm Varsity here has advised farmers to take up necessary preventive measures to save the crop in the coming months.
As per a survey conducted by the Centre for Agricultural and Rural Development Studies, TNAU, the farm-gate prices of good quality small onion would hover above ₹50/kg in the coming months. The shallot price would move further north until the commencement of the harvest from March 2021.
