And the title for the lecture today on invisible woman actually comes from a 1983 book, ancient in your mind, but a book thats over 30 years old by carolyn sachs. And sachs book was really groundbreaking in that she was one of the first to examine the contributions of women to u. S. Agriculture and it was this work that helped launch work by sociologists and other social scientists, rural historians and so forth to look at the contribution of women that had largely been invisible up until this time. So this is a nod to their groundbreaking book. So one of the Big Questions weve been asking in this class, and posing since the first day that we meet is why should we study women in agriculture .
