A demonstration held in Wheatley by villagers worried about the trees being cut down. VILLAGERS are fighting their parish council’s plans to cut down trees which they say are a haven for wildlife. Wheatley residents are angry at plans to cut down trees along a footpath near Farm Close Lane in the village. They have said cutting down the trees would be ‘ecological carnage’ as it would destroy a small but important area for local wildlife, and would also strip houses either side of the row of their privacy. But the parish council, which plans to cut down the row of trees, has said only diseased and dying ones are set for the chop, and new native species will be planted.
