Mr. Speaker, i rise to bring attention to kentuckys avoidable economic failures during this very serious pandemic. Unfortunately covid19 has taken a harsh toll on the economies of all 50 states. However, harmful policies from democratrun states have only made the problem worse. At a time when we should be encouraging the safe reopening of our economy, kentuckys governor recently issued an order shutting down schools and indoor dining. Kentuckys restaurants were already suffering from the last round of shutdowns. And this shortsighted order will only cause more pain and suffering. To make matters worse, our governor is producing no data to justify the need to shut down businesses which have dramatically adjusted to the challenges presented by covid19. Its been an honor or to serve with him and to learn from him. Now you get to hear from the accountant. [laughter] i rise today to give my Farewell Speech on the floor of the u. S. Senate. Its been an honor of a lifetime to serve the great people of wyoming in this position for f e last 24 years. Ive really enjoyed being a senator. Not for the title, not for the recognition and, certainly, not for the publicity. I love solving problems for folks in wyoming and america. I like working on legislation. It might shock those who know me, but i never intended to get into politics. Awhile i always had great respt for those who serve in public office, it wasnt my calling when i left college. All of us wish we could do this to a background of music with lamar playing the piano. That would be the proper setting but i am so pleased to stand and honor the three terms of service in this body and the way he touched the lives of individuals in this body and millions of tennesseans. We know that he has talked about it in his remarks, he has worked with educators. He has worked with innovators. He has worked with the healthcare community, and works with entertainers, many of whom called tennessee home. The white house is still there. I think about the wonderful times we had. And 40 miles a week which is a lot. Thinking about the good times that we had and how thankful i am now to have the superb bipartisan support existed in the seventies. Howard baker from tennessee was a minority leader and was a great personal friend of mine i got wonderful cooperation from the republican side and a minority leader the house of representatives also a great supporter of mine so during the last couple of years i was in the white house so they took away a lot of very liberal democrats with a moderate and conservative democrats and republicans. What about sam nunn . That is very important. He was a young senator then and was my floor leader on some of the key issues applied to nuclear power. He was very knowledgeable about it and working his way up to be chairman later on of the Defense Committee
