London s mayoral candidates have been out casting their votes at polling stations this morning, in an election Sadiq Khan is being tipped to comfortably win.
The Labour candidate is widely expected to retain the keys to City Hall, though his lead over Conservative rival Shaun Bailey has shrunk in recent days amid fears about the capital s crime crisis.
Mr Khan, along with wife Saadiya and their dog Luna, were spotted bright and early at their polling station at St Albans Church in south London, ready to put their crosses in the box.
His main rival, Tory Mr Bailey, was also out with wife Ellie at Drapers Pyrgo Priory School in Romford, as he hopes to cause an upset.

Londoners will be heading to the polls on 6 May to elect a mayor plus 25 London Assembly members. The election was meant to take place in May last year, but was postponed due to the pandemic. Normally, elections take place every four years - and more than six million people in London are registered to vote. Voters can pick a first and a second preference for Mayor. The candidates with least votes are knocked out and their second preferences.

The former entrepreneur teamed up with Waltham Forest-based charity Binning Knives Saves Lives to deliver the weapons, which had been handed in to an amnesty bin in the borough, to City Hall along with a letter calling for current mayor Sadiq Khan’s resignation. Ms London, who is running to be Mayor of London as an independent, said that the demonstration was “to highlight that nothing is being done” to tackle knife crime, adding that “we feel the mayor has failed”.
