Islamabad: President Dr Arif Alvi on Wednesday called for the removal of disparity among different streams of education in the country by ensuring implementation of single national curriculum (SNC). The focus of our education system should be on character building and promoting critical and creative thinking among students, he said during a briefing given by the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training at Aiwan-e-Sadr, here.
The meeting was attended by Minister for FE&PT, Shafqat Mehmood, Minister for Science & Technology, Chaudhry Fawad Hussain, Minister for Human Rights, Dr. Shireen M Mazari, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs, Ali Muhammad Khan, Parliamentary Secretary, FE&PT, Wajeeha Akram, and Secretary FE&PT, Farah Hamid Khan.
ISLAMABAD: Ministry of Education on Wednesday briefed President Dr Arif Alvi about the single national curriculum (SNC) being introduced at the primary level in the upcoming academic session in August this year in both public and private schools along with religious seminaries.
Sources said Education Minister Shafqat Mahmood informed the president that for the first time students of five different religions will be taught their religious text.
“For the first time, five religious minorities will be taught their religious books in schools,” said Joint Education Advisor and Head of National Curriculum Council Rafiq Tahir, who was part of the minister’s team that briefed the president on SNC.

ISLAMABAD: The one-man Commission on Implementation of Minorities Rights, constituted by the Supreme Court, has compiled its seventh report, suggesting corrective measures, including effective legislation, to avoid Karak temple-like tragedies in future as well as ensuring peaceful co-existence in the country.
“The Supreme Court may direct the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony to process the draft bill on National Council for Minorities and get it enacted as law in the Parliament at the earliest,” Commission Chairman Dr Shoaib Suddle said in an eight page report, which was available with APP.
He added the Federal Ministry of Education and Professional Training should address the concerns of minority communities in the context of single national curriculum in close cooperation with the one-man commission.
